“We're excited to see the local community embrace pickleball and all the health and social benefits that come with it,” said fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon Dr. Zachary Hill. “Our team is committed to helping you stay active and safe on the court, from expert care to rehabilitation plans and injury prevention.”
As regional pickleball injury experts, the doctors at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics outline the most common conditions affecting pickleball players and offer tips on prevention:
- Pickleball elbow: Also known as lateral epicondylitis, pickleball elbow often results from overuse. Prevent this injury by doing a warmup and taking regular breaks to allow your arm to recover.
- Knee injuries: Injuries to knee ligaments and cartilage, such as ACL or meniscus tears, can occur with sudden movements or falls. Wear supportive footwear and mind your footing.
- Wrist injuries: Falls as well as improper technique can both lead to wrist injuries. Use supportive braces or wraps and practice appropriate stroke techniques to prevent injury.
- Hip fractures: Falls on the court can result in broken hips. Wear proper footwear and maintain a court clear of hazards to prevent these falls.
- Achilles tendinitis: Repetitive stress can lead to inflammation of the Achilles tendon. Prevent ankle injuries by warming up and gradually increasing your training intensity.
