Sierra Pacific Orthopedics Offers Yoga
Our Yoga Classes
There are many ways to understand and practice yoga. Here at Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, we offer medical yoga. Our anatomy-informed classes, overseen by Dr. Gopi Kasturi, focus on improving strength, flexibility, and managing pain. With a gentle, preventative approach, we provide a safe and supportive environment for adults with pain or fear of traditional exercise. Medical yoga can help with pain management, boost energy levels, and enhance overall movement and function. Whether you're new to yoga, have years of experience, or are fragile-bodied, our classes offer valuable instruction in a welcoming environment for adults of all ages.
Unlock the Benefits of Yoga
Yoga has long been celebrated for its profound impact on health and wellness. At Sierra Pacific Orthopedics, we integrate the ancient practice of yoga with modern therapeutic techniques to address a variety of health concerns:
- Pain Management: Yoga can help alleviate chronic pain through postures and relaxation techniques that reduce muscle tension and stress, addressing the root cause of pain, which is often related to muscular weakness and/or tightness.
- Flexibility and Strength: Regular practice improves spinal flexibility and core strength, promoting better posture and reducing injury risk through balanced muscle development and proper strength to support functional mobility.
- Posture and Alignment: Yoga fosters body awareness and alignment, helping to correct posture, relieve spinal pressure, and address discomfort related to misalignment.
- Stress Reduction: Techniques such as breathwork (pranayama) in yoga help manage stress by regulating the nervous system, reducing physical and psychosomatic tension, and enhancing overall well-being.
- Support for Spinal Conditions: Tailored yoga practices can assist in managing symptoms of spinal conditions such as herniated discs, sciatica, and spinal stenosis, potentially improving quality of life.
- Pelvic Floor Health: Yoga strengthens and coordinates the pelvic floor muscles, supporting pelvic function and alleviating associated discomfort.
- Mental Well-Being: Yoga contributes to mental health by reducing anxiety and depression, which can indirectly support physical health and well-being.
- Overall Wellness: Beyond spinal and pelvic health, yoga enhances general fitness, helps increase bone density, promotes balanced muscular development, and supports overall wellness.

Chair Yoga: This class expands on Gentle Chair Yoga with larger movements, deeper stretches, and some standing and balance postures. It provides a mild cardiovascular workout with a slightly higher heart rate and fewer breaks.
Gentle Mat Yoga: Focuses on full-body mobility and flexibility using gentle movements. Suitable for those transitioning from chair yoga to mat practice, it emphasizes a slow and mindful approach to movement.
